Developing news out of Cameron County today, a
man accused of practicing medicine without a license.
News channel five’s Lisa Cortez at the Cameron
County Courthouse joins us now live.
Cortez:
We are live at the Cameron County Courthouse
where just learned more about the charges from the Cameron County
District Attorney. Now again this man was not only charged with
practicing without a license, but this man is also charged with
theft, sexual assault, and Medicaid fraud. He is Arthur Daniel
Hayes. We’re told he posed as a medical doctor in two clinics, one
in Harlingen and one in San Banito. Now again this all started as
an investigation by the attorney general’s office, they believe he
was illegally billing Medicaid. But in the course of the
investigation, three women came forward accusing him of so much
more, including conducting pelvic exams on them.
Chuck Mattingly:
He’s been charged, as we were talking about,
one count of sexual assault, he’s also been charged with three
counts practicing medicine without licenses for giving medical
examinations such as pelvic exams and breast exams to females in our
community without a license to do so. He’s been charged with
Medicaid fraud and he’s also been charged with theft.
Cortez:
Now that charge of sexual assault stems from
one accusation that he possibly raped one victim. Hayes tonight is
in the Cameron County jail, his total bond set at $200,000.00. Now
all these charges date back to 2002 to 2003. The D.A. says that
there could be more victims out there. Now if you are victim, they
urge you to contact their office here at the Cameron County D.A.’s
office.
We’re live in Brownsville, I’m Lisa Cortez,
