Robert Bennett Profile
Profile:
A
native Texan, Bob Bennett was born in the oil camp town of Phillips,
Texas, close to Amarillo. He
graduated from Tascosa High School and attended Amarillo Junior
College and George Washington University where he received his B.A.
and M.A. While in
Washington, D.C., Bob worked as United States Congressman Patrick
Caffery’s Legislative Assistant.
Bob was on the Dean’s List at Amarillo Junior College and
George Washington University where he also started on the Colonials
Club Rugby Team. Prior
to leaving GWU, he studied overseas visiting Portugal, South Africa,
Thailand, and Japan.
Bob attended law school at the University of Houston Law
Center where he interned in the Harris County District Attorney’s
Office and United States Attorney’s Office.
He was also a member of the International Moot Court Team and
the Order of Barristers.
Bob began his professional life as a trial attorney for the
Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C.
He was hired by U.S. Attorney John Clark in San Antonio and
he served in that position for three years.
After five years of governmental service, Bob accepted a
position as the General Counsel for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company
in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He
facilitated the sale of the company and liaison with the franchisor.
Returning to Houston, Bob entered private practice and
started his own Firm that handled civil and criminal litigation.
During the last twenty-five years he has tried a wide range
of criminal cases including sexual assault and drug conspiracy
cases. Bob’s expertise
extends to ATV – recreational vehicles with jury verdicts of $8
million in Edinburgh, Texas and $30 million in Brownsville, Texas.
He also represents plaintiffs in legal malpractice cases.
In the last ten years, Bob focused his practice on defending
attorneys, doctors, and judges, along with other professionals.
On a weekly basis, throughout the state, Bob or the other
attorneys in his office are appearing before Evidentiary Grievance
Hearings or Disbarment Trials. Appearances
before the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, Board of Law
Examiners, and Board of Judicial Conduct are quite common.
Bob is a frequent speaker on legal and medical ethics,
professional topics, and the author of many articles.
Professional/Community
Involvement:
Bob is involved in the community having served as a volunteer
with Amigos de las Americas in Guatemala and on the Amigos Board of
Directors. He also
served on the Board of Directors of the University of Houston Law
Center Alumni Association, and as the President of the Association
1992-1993. He has served
as the president of his civic association.
He coached little league baseball and youth hockey.
Most recently, he has competed in USA Master Swimming
competitions and Senior Olympics Swimming at the local and state
levels.
